Company Visit at Fresenius Medical Care in Sankt Wendel

The Cluster for Logistics Luxembourg organized a company visit on 17th November 2023, to Fresenius Medical Care in Sankt Wendel. The accompanying members of the Cluster for Logistics witnessed digitalization and automatization in their facilities. In total, 15 people participated to the visit which included a Bus transfer from the Chamber of Commerce.
The participants were welcomed by Michael Schneider, Director Logistics Plant St. Wendel, and his deputy Mark Freitag.
Michael Schneider gave an introduction on the plant and the activities of Fresenius Medical Care before the delegation was split into two groups. One part explored the production facilities, where automatization and robotization play a central role: driverless transport systems, automatic high-bay warehouse, robots in most departments etc.
The other half received an update on digitalization from Mark Freitag. Mark highlighted the support and controlling activities which are enabled by digitalization, allowing amongst others fast error detection. Moreover, he demonstrated the mixed-reality glasses MS HoloLens, which are being tested for support cases, such as supporting a worker from distance during the night. They also already started trainings with the MS HoloLens, which allows training for repetitive tasks. Finally, he elaborated on Power Apps, Power BI, Digital Shop Floor Management all based on Microsoft 365.
The afternoon was rounded off by a discussion and networking session.
