Divers

In order to promote the use of low-emission N1 vans, the Luxembourg Code de la route has been modified to benefit from an exemption in line with the European Directive 2006/126 relating to driving licenses.

Therefore, holders of category B driving license for at least two years can immediately now drive alternative fuel vehicles referred to in Article 2 of Directive 96/53/EC of the Council whose maximum authorized mass is greater than 3,500 kg, without however exceeding 4,250 kg, used for the transport of goods, provided that the excess mass beyond 3,500 kg is due exclusively to the excess mass of the alternative propulsion system compared to a vehicle of the same size equipped with a traditional internal combustion engine and provided that the load capacity is not increased by in relation to this vehicle. In addition, for safety reasons, it is prohibited to hitch a trailer to these vehicles.

This is a national driving license category which is only valid in the territory of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. This increase in the maximum authorized mass is only reserved for pure electric Nl vehicles, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles.

With regard to the recognition of the vehicles in question, in particular for inspection purposes, the vehicles susceptible to such an increase in the maximum authorized mass will remain classified as vehicles of category N1. The additional weight will be indicated in the registration certificate.
