With the support of the European Union, CFL terminals invests in the upgrade of the intermodal terminal Bettembourg-Dudelange
Bettembourg, 24th March 2023 – The development project for the intermodal terminal Bettembourg-Dudelange was selected for funding under the 2021 CEF Transport Calls for Proposals. The project entails a comprehensive investment strategy for the period 2021-2025, aiming at expanding and improving the multimodal hub’s capacity and efficiency as it continues to grow in the heart of Europe.
In September 2022, CINEA and CFL terminals, in partnership with CFL multimodal, have signed a grant agreement for the ambitious investment project PULSE (capacity, automation, digitalisation, decarbonisation and upgrade). The European Commission awarded a funding of 2.3 million euros from the Connecting Europe Facility program (CEF) for the upgrade of the intermodal terminal Bettembourg-Dudelange with a budget worth almost 7.7 million euros.
Daniel Feyder, Director CFL terminals: “CFL terminals and CFL multimodal are proud to be among the projects selected for funding under the 2021 CEF-Transport Calls for Proposals, which highlights the importance of our development plans as a multimodal hub in the heart of Europe.”
PULSE stands for the capacity increase, automation, digitalisation and decarbonisation strategies to upgrade the intermodal terminal Bettembourg-Dudelange. The project consists of 5 work packages which address the deployment of clean transshipment equipment and innovative ICT (information and communications technology) solutions. As a result, the upgrade of the terminal will allow to increase the handling capacity of the cranes on the combined transport platform by over 60%, to reduce the CO2 emissions on the rail motorway platform by around 50% and to digitalize and automate terminal processes. Furthermore, the project will deliver studies regarding both the deployment of a 5G network and the future infrastructure measures within the scope of the project.
